Recently, the latest Ludum Jam took place and a few of us at Play Nimbus took the opportunity to step back from developing Wobbles for a bit to work on something new to keep our minds fresh and flowing, and not burn out. During this time, we created a simple iOS game, Ball 2 Box.
What is Ball 2 Box?
Within the game, you simply tap a spot on the screen, and your ball moves to it. Simple? Yup! Challenging? You bet! We are using our time developing this small little side project to research a few new technologies, such as new Unity 3D plugins and even analytic tracking software that will ultimately end up in Wobbles once we start full production in the summer.
However, once we finished our small amount of research, we ended up with a fun iOS game that we actually enjoyed making puzzles for and playing, so we decided to take a week or two and finish it up. Right now we’re putting some nice graphics into the game and finishing up the UI to make it work nicely on iOS devices.
Can I play it now & how much will it cost?
We aren’t ready to release it just yet, since we want to make it polished and presentable for a realized title. We don’t want to throw garbage onto the app store and into the public, we want to put something we feel is great and others will enjoy too!
Ball 2 Box will also be free. No need to give us money.
What did we learn during this process?
During the Ludum Jam, and the development days that followed, we learned a lot about creating an iOS game, beyond what we already learned with Wobbles. We discovered many new asset store plugins that will make developing Wobbles and further iOS games a breeze. We also learned how to track player reception of the game, while we aren’t there, next to them watching. We now know when people fail levels, complete them, and in what amount of time! It’s such a help for gauging puzzle difficulty.
Where can I read more about the game?
First and foremost, be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook. We like to keep our fans updated with our projects there, since it serves as an easy platform. Secondly, the Play Nimbus blog is a great spot for finding chunks of news on what we’re doing. Finally, the Ball 2 Box game page here on PlayNimbus.com is where we are storing all our screenshots, videos, etc about the game. Be sure to visit it!
